Where I practice
I appreciate the opportunity to serve Portland’s community with a commitment to excellence, compassion, and transparency in patient care, working in partnership with those around me. I obtained my medical degree from the University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine and completed my residency training at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I have been involved in teaching, training, and supervising family medicine residents for more than 15 years. My guiding principles, whether professionally or personally, are rooted in doing common things uncommonly well and approaching challenges and obstacles as opportunities for growth and improvement.
About my practice
As health care becomes more and more complex, my role as a physician is to empower patients so they can confidently navigate their choices regarding prevention, disease-management, and overall health. Having recently completed my culinary medicine training, I am passionate about nutrition and food, personal habits, and lifestyle choices and their role in disease prevention, treatment, and management.
How I thrive
Over the past few years I have been involved with Unbeatable Mind, founded by former Navy Seal Mark Divine. It is an intensive program that focuses on developing and maintaining physical and functional fitness, improving nutrition, developing mental and emotional resilience, and deepening self-awareness to ultimately serve others effectively and improve our communities and the world we live in. Although structure and routine are essential to my well-being, so is having fun and doing what I love. Things I enjoy include building and maintaining meaningful relationships with friends and family; getting outdoors; playing soccer, tennis, and ping pong; cooking and finding new restaurants and recipes; working on home renovation projects; traveling the world; reading good books; and, occasionally, binging on Netflix.
