Aloha! I was born and raised on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. I’m a proud alumnus of the University of Hawaii system, where I completed my undergraduate, graduate, and medical education, and a family medicine residency. Prior to my career in medicine, I served as an instructor and program coordinator with the Hawaii State Department of Education and as a child nutritionist with the state and with the U.S. Army in Hawaii. My decision to pursue a career in medicine was greatly influenced by being the primary caregiver for my maternal grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and other common illnesses in aging.
Having been born into and cared for in the Kaiser Permanente system, I’m a true believer in the patient-centered, medical-home philosophy that Kaiser Permanente provides. My training has allowed me to care for patients with multiple complex medical issues in a patient-centered medical-home model. In addition, my work experience with the Maui Veteran Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in Kahului, Hawaii, has enabled me to understand, manage, and care for our United States veterans.
Growing up on a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean made me appreciate and respect the outdoors. On my visits back home to Hawaii, I enjoy relaxing on the beach, hiking, running, yoga, and dining with family and friends. While in Oregon, I enjoy many of those same activities while adding skiing, ice-skating, traveling around the continental United States, and enjoying the variety of foods Oregon has to offer. As a proud alumnus of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), I serve as a JABSOM Alumni Association board member with the goal of connecting JABSOM alumni on the continental U.S.
