Kaiser Permanente is pleased to announce that it has reached an initial agreement to acquire Group Health of Seattle, Washington to advance high-quality care and coverage for members and patients in the Pacific Northwest.

Improving the health of the communities we serve is part of Kaiser Permanente's mission, and a mission we share with Group Health. This acquisition is good for both Group Health and Kaiser Permanente who share a long history of working collaboratively and a strong commitment to integrated care and coverage in which medical groups and health plans work together.

Pending approval by the Group Health Cooperative members and regulatory approvals, the two organizations will join forces to advance high-quality, affordable care and coverage for members and patients in Washington.

The process to complete this transaction will take about a year and many of the specifics will be developed together in the coming months. Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing regular updates and sharing more specifics as we know them. During this transaction process, nothing will change for Group Health patients, members and customers. There will be no disruptions in care or service during this process. Members will continue to receive care from the same physicians and care teams they have today.
