About me

I was born in Minnesota, but was raised in Kenya and the Philippines. I came to Maui for my college roommate's destination wedding, and fell in love with the island because it reminded me of the Philippines.

About my practice

Although there are no other doctors in my family, I knew that I wanted to be one since age five. Medicine has always felt like a calling to me because it allows me the privilege of being able to help other people every day.

I love practicing dermatology because the skin is a very visible and accessible organ. Patients can tell when something is wrong with their skin and whether treatments are working, so they are true partners in the doctor-patient relationship. As a dermatopathologist, I also enjoy looking at skin biopsy slides under the microscope to make the appropriate diagnosis.

At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG), I served as chief of dermatology from 2009 to 2013 and as a member of the voting board of directors for three years. At HPMG, I like the fact that I can focus on practicing medicine and delivering the best possible care to each patient I see. I am part of an incredible network of providers that I can contact with the click of a button and our electronic medical record puts all of my patients' health information at my fingertips.

I always do my best to listen to each patient's story carefully and to keep an open mind. My goal is to not only make the correct diagnosis, but also to come up with the treatment plan that will work best for a given individual's needs.

My patients make each interaction enjoyable by telling me about themselves. I like getting to know people over time, taking care of multiple members of the same family, and feeling the connection of mutual trust and respect that comes out of a longstanding doctor-patient relationship.

How I thrive

I like to play tennis, run, read, and travel.
