Preventive care services covered under health care reform

At Kaiser Permanente, preventive care has always been an essential part of your health plan. Preventive services include immunizations and screenings to detect possible diseases and help you stay well.

And now, under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as health care reform, certain preventive care services in many of our plans (PDF) also available in Chinese (PDF) [中文本] and Spanish (PDF) (en español) will be covered with no cost sharing. This means that you won't have to pay copayments, coinsurance, or deductible payments for some preventive services specified by the government, such as:

  • Blood pressure screening for all adults
  • Cholesterol screening
  • Colorectal cancer screening for adults over 50
  • Type 2 diabetes screening for adults with high blood pressure
  • Mammograms every 1 to 2 years for women over 40
  • Cervical cancer screening for women 21 to 65
  • Osteoporosis screening for women over 60, depending on risk factors
  • Immunizations for children from birth to 18 years
  • Obesity screening and counseling for children

You will share the cost for other preventive care services according to your plan.
