Out of 100 people who have surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon, 5 will rupture the tendon again within 1 to 2 years, compared to 12 out of 100 people who do not have surgery. 2 to 3 out of 100 who have surgery will have a deep infection, compared to 0 out of 100 people who do not have surgery.
