This medication is used to treat a certain skin condition (plaque psoriasis). Tapinarof can help lessen the symptoms of plaque psoriasis (such as red, scaly patches of skin).
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using tapinarof and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Wash and dry your hands before applying the medication, then clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub in as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. Do not apply this medication to normal, healthy skin. Wash your hands after using this medication unless your hands are being treated. If your doctor recommends a moisturizer, apply it after this medication.
This medication is for use on the skin only. Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, mouth, or vagina. If you do get the medication in those areas, flush with plenty of water.
Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
Do not use large amounts or apply this medication more often than directed or use it for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects will increase.
Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse.
Skin irritation/redness or small red bumps on the skin (folliculitis) may occur where the medication is applied. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another skin condition unless your doctor tells you to.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Store at room temperature. Do not freeze. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
