This medication is used to treat a certain blood clotting disease (hemophilia B). Hemophilia B is a genetic disorder caused by lack of a certain type of clotting proteins (factor IX), or caused by clotting proteins that do not work properly. Fidanacogene elaparvovec is known as gene therapy. It is made from a virus that has been specially prepared. The virus is used to carry a working copy of the factor IX gene into your cells. This effect may help your body make normal factor IX and may decrease bleeding problems due to hemophilia B.
This medication is given by slow injection into a vein as directed by the doctor. It is given as a one-time dose. The dosage is based on your body weight.

Small amounts of virus may shed in your bodily fluids (such as urine, stool, saliva, mucus, or semen) for 6 months after your treatment. During this time, if you or your caregiver may have touched any bodily fluids that could contain virus, wash your hands with soap and water to avoid infection.
