Medication name

Generic name:
Sebetralstat - oral

Pronunciation
(SE-be-TRAL-stat)

Brand name(s)
Ekterly

Uses

This medication is used to treat attacks of sudden severe swelling due to a certain inherited immune disease (hereditary angioedema-HAE). Sebetralstat works by binding to a natural substance made by the body (kallikrein) and blocking its effect. This effect lowers the amount of another natural substance (bradykinin) that causes symptoms during a sudden HAE attack.

How to use

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking sebetralstat and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, at the first signs of an HAE attack. The dosage is based on your medical condition and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

If your symptoms only partly get better, or if they get worse or come back, you may take another dose at least 3 hours after the first dose. Do not take more than 1,200 milligrams in a 24-hour period. Some patients may be directed to not take more than 600 milligrams in a 24-hour period. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse.

Side effects
