Uses

Creatine has been used mainly for improving exercise performance and increasing muscle strength.

It has also been used for muscle disorders (such as McArdle's disease), Parkinson's disease, and heart failure. Using this product without proper medical care for conditions such as heart failure may cause or worsen serious health problems. Consult your doctor for proper treatment of your condition.

Creatine is the same as a substance made by your body that is found mostly in the muscles. It helps to provide energy to the muscles.

Some herbal/diet supplement products have been found to contain possibly harmful impurities/additives. Check with your pharmacist for more details about the brand you use.

How to use

Take this product by mouth as directed. Follow all directions and warnings on the product package. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Measure the dose carefully using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.

Drink plenty of water while using this product unless your doctor directs you otherwise.

If your condition lasts or gets worse, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, get medical help right away.

Side effects

Nausea, upset stomach, or diarrhea may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including:

  • muscle cramps
  • reduced ability to tolerate heat
  • symptoms of dehydration (such as unusual decreased urination, unusual dry mouth/thirst, fast heartbeat, dizziness/lightheadedness)
  • signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine)

Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including:

  • seizures

A very serious allergic reaction to this product is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

  • rash
  • itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
  • severe dizziness
  • trouble breathing

Precautions

Before taking creatine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of:

  • kidney disease
  • liver disease
  • diabetes

Liquid forms of this product may contain sugar and/or alcohol. Caution is advised if you have diabetes, alcohol dependence, or liver disease. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely.

Children may be more sensitive to the effects of this product.

This product is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for more details.

It is unknown if this product passes into breast milk. Because of the possible risk to the infant, breastfeeding is not recommended while using this product. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Drug interactions

Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. This product may interfere with certain lab tests (such as kidney function tests), possibly causing false test results. Make sure lab personnel and all your doctors know you use this product.

Overdose

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call 1-844-764-7669.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage

Refer to storage information printed on the package. If you have any questions about storage, ask your pharmacist. Keep all medications and herbal products away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
