About me

I was inspired to become a doctor by my grandmother, Ignacia, an amazing woman who raised five kids on her own after World War II. She always exemplified compassion, caregiving, and unconditional support. Living with her during medical school, I realized how fortunate we were to be part of a multigenerational household.

I earned my medical degree at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Minnesota and did my internal medicine internship and residency with the University of California, Davis Health System. I also have a Master of Mass Communication with an emphasis in medical journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

About my practice

Practicing medicine is a privilege. Having a positive impact on my patient's lives has been very rewarding. During my training, I worked with underserved communities, trying to help bridge the gap in access to health care for the uninsured and underinsured. Having grown up in Guam, I understand the complexities and rewards of taking care of an island community, and now I’ve come full circle, working again with a Pacific Island population, which was my ultimate goal. I feel fortunate to be working in Hawaii and to have the opportunity to work with my patients towards a better, healthier community.

I keep up with current medical research by reading various professional journals, engaging in continuing education activities, and consulting colleagues.

Joining the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is an honor. Here, I’m surrounded by excellent specialists and great support staff. Our electronic medical record system provides exceptional access to our patients’ history and health information, allowing me to deliver the best care in a timely manner.

As a hospital physician, I’m likely to meet you and your loved ones during a stressful time. My priority is to provide comfort and reassurance along with high-quality care based on the latest research. It’s my belief that the doctor-patient relationship should be built on trust and open communication. In my practice I strive to give you the information you need to make the most beneficial medical decisions.

How I thrive

To stay healthy physically and mentally, I try to take full advantage of living in beautiful Hawaii. I go on hikes with my family, including my energetic, young daughter. Having her during medical school was difficult, as I could go for weeks with only giving her a quick kiss hello while she was sleeping. Now, I get to spend so much more time with her. I missed so much, but I get a kick out of her changing personality and interesting perspective of the world.

Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
