Where I practice
I was born in Texas but lived in various places throughout the U.S. Mainland as a child. Shortly after moving to Hawaii in 1975, I met my fabulous wife while attending the University of Hawaii. We welcomed our son a few years later at the Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center. Fun fact: I was among the very first in my medical school class to become a proud father.
About my practice
My love of working with kids became evident during my teenage years as a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach. Through the years, I also found that I had a passion for science. As a pediatrician, I get to live in both worlds. I believe that children are priceless and need strong and loving advocates in the challenging world we live in today. As a physician with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I am able to focus on the “big picture” within a dynamic health care environment. I am honored to be the pediatric department’s section chief for the Mapunapuna clinic and feel fortunate to work with such an extraordinary group of physicians and leaders who are not only colleagues, but visionaries as well. Partnering with my patients and their parents helps me provide quality care while helping the family to make wise health care choices. When I enter an exam room, the child is the center of my focus and attention. I love having conversations and interacting with them, and never turn down the opportunity to hold a baby. I am honored to be the Vice President of the Hawaii Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and will begin serving as President in 2013.
How I thrive
The outdoors are my playground and I love to go jogging, hiking and skiing. When I am not outside you will find me either in the kitchen cooking, relaxing with my family or reading a good book. I also love to watch basketball. As a passionate basketball fan, I get a bit anxious if I go too long without watching any games!
