Michael T. Caps, MD
I speak: English
My gender: Male
Where I practice
I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. My father, a retired corporate tax attorney, recommended that I pursue a career in medicine. I always loved math and science and initially wanted to be a veterinarian but when I entered college, a good family friend who was also a physician persuaded me to pursue medicine for humans instead of for animals. I came to work for the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) because I always loved Hawaii and also because I was very impressed with the Kaiser Permanente care delivery model.
About my practice
During my general surgery residency, I was very impressed with the vascular surgeons. I like that vascular surgery involves procedures on multiple anatomical areas within the body and that it combines open surgical and minimally invasive procedures. The care at HPMG is team-based and the delivery system is far more integrated and coordinated than in the private practice world. HPMG is a high-quality medical group with a wealth of extremely well-trained and knowledgeable physicians. In my practice, I strive to provide state-of-the-art vascular care in a compassionate, timely, and efficient manner, and have fun while doing it. I enjoy talking with patients and their families in the clinic, in the hospital, and before, during, and after surgery. I also provide leadership for the medical group in areas of healthcare reform, benefits design, contracting, and coordinating medical care for our members outside the Kaiser Permanente delivery system.
How I thrive
I exercise daily and I try to eat a healthy, mostly plant-based diet. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, good food, and running, biking, swimming, and other sports.
