Where I practice
I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduating from high school I went to the Mainland to complete my medical education and training but returned to Hawaii because it is “home” to me. I am a fourth generation Japanese-American, with values of hard work, education and service instilled in me by my grandparents and parents. I am fortunate to be able to raise my own family here, instilling in them the same values, and contributing to my community.
About my practice
I have always been interested in science and math. Initially, I thought of pursuing engineering but when I realized how much joy I got working with people, I decided that a career in medicine would suit me better. As a family medicine physician, I love caring for people throughout all stages of their lives. I fondly recall a special day in my career when I had the privilege of caring for both a newborn baby and a 101 year old patient in the same shift. It felt wonderful to share in the lives of both of these patients, on different ends of the spectrum. For me the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group is a very special organization because not only are we an organized team of physicians and medical staff, we are an ohana, or family. This is evident in our spirit and our coordinated approach to health care, delivering the highest quality of care possible. I strive to treat each of my patients as I would want myself or my family to be treated. I genuinely care about my patients; I actively listen to their questions and try to act on their concerns. I often reflect on conversations I have had with my patients and the different kinds of concerns we have discussed. I think it such a privilege for me to be a part of so many lives.
How I thrive
I love taking walks with my husband and kids which keeps us healthy as a family. I also enjoy traveling, hiking, dancing hula, reading, listening to music, and attending my children’s activities. I always try to be present in the moment wherever I am and stay positive about life!
