About me

I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and came to Hawaii after finishing college in 1989. I loved the culture, aloha spirit, and warm weather so much that I decided to stay. I met and married my wonderful husband here in Hawaii and have two energetic and creative kids that keep me young at heart.

About my practice

I have always loved helping people and am continuously intrigued by the miraculous human body. A medical career seemed like the best way to combine both of my passions. I chose primary care because I like really getting to know my patients. I enjoy looking at the whole patient, and not just one medical problem or one body part. I have been with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) since 1998. I left the organization temporarily when my family and I moved to Japan in 2008. When we moved back in 2011, I was happy for the opportunity to rejoin HPMG. As a health care practitioner, I value kindness, compassion, and being a good listener. I like talking with my patients and finding out what they do and how they feel outside of the exam room. I like learning about their family. All of that information plays a part in developing a plan, with the patient, for their treatment. Knowing that I am helping them live a little healthier is the best part of being a physician assistant. I hold a master’s degree in health science from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. My professional affiliations include the International Society of Travel Medicine, the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Hawaii Academy of Physician Assistants, for which I am the co-coordinator of our annual medical conference.

How I thrive

I make it a point to meditate and exercise every day, even if it ends up being just a few minutes of both. On the weekends, I can be found in the ocean or on the tennis courts with my family. I like to run, bike, swim, play tennis, and I am still learning to surf. I enjoy playing the piano and trying to hide vegetables in the meals I make for my kids.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
