Kaiser Permanente provider
My gender: Male
I'm accepting new patients
I was born in Palo Alto, California and my family moved to Honolulu when I was 15 years old. After graduating from Punahou School I stayed in the islands to complete my undergraduate and medical education. I did my residency work in Pennsylvania and practiced there for 20 years before moving back to Hawaii to be closer to family. I have been married to my wife for over 30 years and our wonderful adult daughter is married and is a practicing optometrist in New York City.
Ever since I was young, I felt that a career in medicine would fulfill my desire to help people and make a difference in the world. I was inspired to pursue this dream after touring the John A. Burns School of Medicine while still in high school. During my training I decided to specialize in family medicine because I enjoyed every aspect of patient care and appreciated being with all age groups. As a physician with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I feel very fortunate to be part of a very dynamic, patient-centered and progressive medical group which allows me to offer quality medical care, maximize my time with my patients, and work as a team with outstanding colleagues. I have also received much support and enjoy my role as the clinic chief for West Big Island including the Waimea, Kona and South Kona clinics. I strive to have my patients live well in every stage of their lives. I am dedicated to helping them reduce their health problems and maintain a level of well being, and I spend time getting to know them to ensure I address the full scope of their medical needs. I am also available to my patients in person, through phone appointments and over email.
Keeping healthy is very important to me and I keep fit by walking, hiking, swimming, and snorkeling. Staying active also helps nurture my photography hobby, which started in high school. I now carry my camera almost everywhere I go. It sparks my creativity and captures our families’ life story. I also enjoy staying connected with our daughter, her husband and other family members and friends who live on the Mainland. My wife and I make an effort to speak with them regularly and visit as often as we can.
