I speak: English
My gender: Male
Where I practice
I was born and raised on Maui. A friend on my high school tennis team influenced me to study medicine. I asked him what he was going to do when he graduated, and he said he was going to become a doctor. I said I was going to study biology and become a scientist, but I ultimately liked his idea better. He eventually became a dentist, and I went into medicine.
About my practice
I currently serve as the chief of the Nephrology Division at the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG). I enjoy collaborating with others at HPMG who are part of a team that delivers high-quality, integrated care to our members. I believe in treating both members and colleagues as if they are my next customers. I enjoy talking with my patients about their personal lives, which allows me to appreciate what they are feeling and why they feel that way. Through understanding how their illness affects them, I can appreciate what it's like to be in their shoes.
How I thrive
I enjoy walking, yard work, and always try to carry my golf bag when I golf rather than ride a cart. I also love backpacking in the wilderness, especially when my children come with me.
