How to schedule appointments
Most specialty care is by referral, so talk to your doctor to get connected. However, you don’t need a doctor’s referral to make appointments for the following services and departments, including:
The list of specialties that don’t require a referral vary by island. For services not listed above, your doctor may refer you to a specialist when it’s medically necessary. Members on Kauai, Molokai, or Lanai may self-refer to contracted network providers, but certain treatments may require a referral. For details, please call Member Services at 1-800-966-5955 (TTY 711).
In some cases, neighbor island members may be referred for treatment on Oahu. Physicians there may have access to facilities and equipment not available on other islands.
If you go to Oahu for medically necessary care, we can help coordinate your appointments. Please note, however, that Kaiser Permanente doesn’t cover travel costs for member self-referrals.
