Kaiser Permanente medical center practitioner
My gender: Female
Yes, I’m accepting new patients. Referral may be required.
I was born in Austria, but lived in South America until the age of nine when my family moved to Tampa, Fla. I moved to Atlanta in 1979, and aside from the nine months I lived in Canada last year, I have lived within 60 miles of the greater Atlanta area since then. I stumbled into nursing in 1975 when a friend asked me to take her to take an entrance exam for nursing school. It was far away and very hot, and the only way I could stay in the building was to take the exam. So I took the exam and got accepted into nursing school! My passion for helping people heal has only grown as my professional education and experience have brought me to my current passion in addiction medicine.
I joined Kaiser Permanente's Behavioral Health Department as the director of the Chemical Dependence Recovery Program in 2012. Having the opportunity to be a part of this team is an awesome and exciting challenge for me as research shows that group therapy is a highly effective and successful format for recovering from substance abuse and addiction. In my role, I split my time between doing substance use assessments, facilitating groups and seeing behavioral health patients for medication management. The behavioral health team of providers and staff are knowledgeable, compassionate and energetic. They really do work as a team to provide quality care to our Kaiser Permanente members. I am proud to be a part of such a dynamic and caring team!
I have learned to thrive by creating balance in my life. For me, that means balancing my professional and personal life. This includes physical activities like biking, hiking and archery. Eating my veggies and some chocolate, of course, keeps my mind and body healthy. Feeding my creative side with the arts and music is also good for my soul. I enjoy playing the Native American flute and listening to a variety of music. Having a spiritual practice is very important to me as well, so I meditate every day. I also enjoy traveling when I can. Some of my favorite destinations include the Gulf beaches, France and the mountains.
