Where I practice
I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, and graduated as valedictorian from Davidson College in North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in French. After college I received a graduate scholarship from the Rotary Club to study in the Ivory Coast, a French-speaking country in West Africa. I had completed the pre-med courses in college but decided definitively on a career in medicine after witnessing the suffering in Africa. I felt I could make a significant difference in people's lives as health is central to quality of life. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2004 after working in private practice for 7 years. I currently live in Boulder with my husband, who works in real estate, and my 2 sons.
About my practice
I chose internal medicine because I enjoy working with the whole person. I have a half-time practice where I focus on being a compassionate and knowledgeable physician. After 10 years of practicing in a primary care medical office, I transitioned into my current role in Continuing Care, so that I could focus on a primarily geriatric practice. I find working with this population very rewarding and appreciate the privilege of seeing my patients in their home environments, including long-term care, assisted living and private residences. My practice philosophy centers on treating my patients with dignity and respect and helping them navigate complex decisions in health care to align with their personal goals. I work as a team with our specialists, pharmacists and others to coordinate my patients’ care.
How I thrive
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my 2 sons and am rejuvenated and inspired by watching the joy they find in the simple things of life. I am blessed to have my husband's extended family living near us and enjoy spending time with them. We travel to the mountains frequently for hiking, camping and skiing. Our social interactions are enriched by our participation in a faith-based community in our area. I also enjoy reading and tennis in my spare time.
