Where I practice
I received my undergraduate degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin, then graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I then continued my medical training at The University of Chicago. It was there that I did both an internal medicine residency and medical oncology fellowship. I came to Colorado in 1992 and never left. I went into private practice with Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in 1994 and remained there until joining Kaiser Permanente in October 2008. I am board certified in medical oncology and enrolled in the maintenance of certification program through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
About my practice
My areas of focus are breast and gynecologic cancers. I am currently the physician leader for the breast cancer care program here at Kaiser Permanente Colorado. I enjoy being a part of this wonderful team which aims to improve and enhance the breast cancer care experience for our members. I have a particular interest in solid tumors, especially breast cancer and cancer susceptibility syndromes. I work full-time in the Franklin Medical Offices caring for people with cancer. My personal philosophy is "knowledge is power," and I try to empower my patients by giving them the information they need to understand their cancer diagnosis and treatment options. My communication style is open and relaxed and I urge my patients to ask questions and be an active participant in their cancer treatment plan and recovery. We have an amazing group of nurses as well as a phenomenal social worker in our office. We all work closely together to care for cancer patients. It is truly a team effort.
How I thrive
Although being a cancer doctor can be trying at times, I thrive on challenges and derive strength from the patients I care for every day. I enjoy getting to know my patients as individuals and feel honored to be a part of their cancer journey. On the home front, I enjoy spending time with my husband, children and adorable Goldendoodle. In terms of hobbies, I enjoy photography. I try to find time for myself to exercise most days of the week as I always feel better in mind and body when outdoors and active.
