Where I practice
I grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, and subsequently headed east for my undergraduate and master’s education. After a stint as a technology consultant I decided to pursue a career that would be more fulfilling to my passion, interacting with and helping people. I felt the best way to do this was to combine law and medicine so I could both advocate for health care and at the same time provide care. I returned to Colorado and attended law school at CU Boulder and medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. While in medical school, actually on the first day, I met the lady of my dreams who would become my wife. After completing my residency in emergency medicine and internal medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, I stayed on as faculty in the emergency department. My wife and I returned to Colorado with our new son after she finished her fellowship in pediatric intensive care. I love the work that I do and emergency medicine has been the perfect specialty for me because each day I have the opportunity to help my patients both medically and emotionally in their worst and most vulnerable times.
About my practice
I chose emergency medicine because each day I cherish the opportunity to build new relationships with new patients and to help them through some of their most difficult times. The emergency department is a dynamic environment which requires a broad yet specific knowledge base as well the ability to lead a team and make real-time decisions. I try to care for everyone I see as if they were one of my own family members or friends. I feel honest and open communication is key to any physician-patient relationship. I am a passionate physician who in all situations just tries to do the right thing for my patient.
How I thrive
I am someone who is in motion constantly. Whether it be at work, through national health care advocacy, skiing up in the mountains, or at home as a father and husband, I try to do everything to the fullest extent possible. I believe if you put your all into everything you do, it is hard not to feel fulfilled.
