Where I practice
I have been a board certified family physician since 1985. I began my practice in Michigan, migrated west to Minnesota during the 90s and settled in my wife's hometown of Boulder, Colorado more than 10 years ago. Now our family consists of three wonderful children and our dog Kody. They are my eternal source of inspiration (and occasional challenge). I believe that health is not simply the absence of disease but a process of coping and of vitality. Medical care is simply one aspect of a person's total health care. While there is a great deal of attention given to the medical care system, one's social, emotional, psychological, and environmental well-being extends far beyond what medical care provides. I believe and have taken an oath to provide care for the whole person, to utilize the best of science as my guide, and to be humble in the process.
About my practice
I've practiced as a member of the Primary Care Department at Baseline in Boulder for more than 10 years. As chief and representative to the Family Medicine Department during my tenure at Baseline, I have been privileged to witness and be involved with the remarkable leadership and innovations at Kaiser Permanente. I am proud of Baseline being a leader in quality and service for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado since its inception. I practice full spectrum family medicine and truly enjoy getting to know my patients in the context of their families. I have special interests in preventive medicine, orthopedics and behavioral health. I also enjoy pediatrics, gynecology, sports medicine, geriatrics and the personalized approach that is the essence of family medicine.
How I thrive
I believe that life is a spiritual process and that every moment is a learning opportunity. The key is maintaining a healthy attitude. I enjoy running and have completed nearly 20 marathons. I have learned that as my body ages I need to be more mindful and diverse in my physical pursuits. I would like to do more yoga, meditation, and massage as part of my life's maintenance program. I have been mostly vegetarian since 1970 and have recently learned to empathize with how hard dieting can be. My family and friends teach me that relationships are key to a having a successful life. I hope to never forget the gift that is life, to play more and to find joy in the everyday stuff.
