Where I practice
I grew up in Minnesota, attended college and medical school in California, returned to Minnesota for an orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic, and finally went to the University of Florida to complete a fellowship in sports medicine. I came to Colorado in 2000 after practicing with Kaiser Permanente in San Jose, California, for seven years, to be able to enjoy outdoor activities, especially skiing. My wife and I are empty nesters now, with our daughters attending college. I am very proud of their accomplishments. I enjoy my practice in orthopedic surgery because we work in highly functioning teams, and our patients see dramatic improvements in their lives when they have recovered from surgery.
About my practice
Patients often come to orthopedic surgeons because they are in pain and are having difficulty pursuing the activities they enjoy. My goal is to help patients understand the cause of their troubles and to try to provide solutions. I want my patients to be well-informed, as some of our treatment decisions are difficult. I work with medical assistants, nurses, physician assistants, non-operative orthopedic physicians, and other surgeons to provide patients excellent care in an efficient manner. I enjoy providing high-quality orthopedic care to Kaiser Permanente members. I want that care to be a good value for our members as well. I perform joint replacements of the knee, hip and shoulder, and treat patients of all ages with sports and other injuries of upper and lower extremities.
How I thrive
I thrive at work and at play. I enjoy being outdoors, usually participating in sports activities. I especially enjoy tennis, backcountry skiing, mountain biking and golf. My wife and I enjoy travel and visiting our children in college, where they are active in sports as well. We go scuba diving as a family. Like me, I encourage my patients to be as active as possible.
