I grew up in Chicago and moved to Colorado to attend the University of Denver, where I met my husband, an aerospace engineer. After undergraduate work, I received a degree in social work from the University of Illinois and worked with dialysis patients. When I decided to attend medical school, family practice seemed to tie together my training and life experiences. I follow the University of Denver hockey team, and I have two teenage daughters who keep me busy with their activities in band, swimming, and cheerleading.
As a family practitioner, each day is new and varied. I see pediatrics, adult internal medicine, gynecological, and trauma patients. I enjoy getting to know my patients, their families, and their history, as well as helping them make healthy choices and learn more about disease processes and treatment options.
I've found that in order to take care of others, I need to take care of myself as well. I walk about five miles, three or more times per week with my Alaskan malamute, Arctic. This gives me a chance to think, relax, and enjoy my selections of music on my iPod. I feel fortunate to live in the beautiful state of Colorado with wonderful weather, blue skies and the mountains to enjoy while walking. I also relax by practicing the piano when I have extra time. I have a sweet tooth, and try to eat right by cooking with recipes from Cooking Light magazine. I also enjoy planting flowers in my garden in the summer.
