Where I practice
I grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, and went to medical school in Detroit at Wayne State University. I moved to Colorado in 1997 for my internal medicine residency at Saint Joseph Hospital. I got married to my wonderful wife in 2001 and we have two daughters. I decided to pursue a career in medicine during my sophomore year at Michigan State University. Although it is a challenging career, I consider it to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I completed residency in 2000 and continued as chief resident of my program for an additional year.
About my practice
I chose hospital medicine as my specialty because I really enjoy the fast-paced, ever-changing world of inpatient care. I believe the key to caring for patients always starts with listening to and understanding them. This is critical to creating a trusting relationship with my patients and their families, which establishes a foundation for their medical care. I want you to know that you are not alone. I am your advocate and will work hard to make sure you get the care you need and deserve. I work with a large inpatient health care team and enjoy the challenge of leading this team and coordinating your care from the moment you are admitted to the day of discharge. The majority of my patients are between the ages of 65 and 85, but I care for all adult patients who are 18 or older and require hospital-based care.
How I thrive
When I am not working, I enjoy the outdoors and experiencing all that Colorado has to offer, such as hiking, mountain biking, golfing and skiing. My family and I like to travel the world, especially to warm ocean destinations, where my eldest daughter and I get the opportunity to scuba dive together.
