Kaiser Permanente provider
My gender: Female
Yes, my office is accepting new patients. May require referral.
I grew up on a farm in Kansas in a large and extended family. I wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember and was the family nurse with my younger sisters. After practicing as a bedside registered nurse for 20 years, I was finally able to fulfill my dream of being an nurse practitioner and went back to school nine years ago. Since becoming a nurse practitioner, I have practiced in a geriatric practice, cardiology and urgent care before coming to Kaiser Permanente Colorado nearly five years ago. I am the proud mother of two adult sons.
The best thing about my job is the variety of patients I see every day. It is how I can do the same occupation for more than 30 years and never become bored! I enjoy all age groups, trauma and procedures. I have a collaborative practice style incorporating the patient’s financial, work and family situation. I try to come up with a plan together with the patient that will work best for them.
I practice what I preach! I am a runner having run 17 marathons and I didn't start running them until age 40! I drink at least 60 ounces of water per day and am conscious of what I eat. I try to "thrive" every day in at least a small way. I am a volunteer tutor with a program called "Whiz Kids." My student this year is a seven-year-old Denver Public School student who is behind in math and reading. We meet once a week. I have done this for several years and feel an obligation to give back to my community. My parents were involved in volunteer work while I was growing up so it seemed like the right thing to do and I like it!
