Where I practice
I was born in Connecticut and moved to Colorado in 1990 to train at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and to be closer to my brother, who was attending the University of Denver at the time. My first practice was with Boulder Community Hospital after completing my training. I have worked at Kaiser Permanente since 2003 and spent 5 years as chief of the Endocrinology department. I was honored as a 5280 Magazine Top Doctor in Endocrinology in 2011 and 2012. What excites me about medicine is the constant learning and interactions with my patients, as well as nursing and physician colleagues. I love endocrinology because it’s complex but logical, and is mostly outpatient, which allows me more time with my family.
About my practice
I practice medicine with as much compassion and humor as possible. My philosophy regarding care is that each treatment plan is a shared decision between myself and my patient. I am an excellent listener, truly care about my patients and work with them to create an individual treatment plan that meets their needs and provides high-quality and affordable health care. I enjoy all aspects of endocrinology but particularly like working with complex diabetes and transgender persons. I regularly perform fine needle aspirations (FNA) of thyroid nodules in the office. My practice is open to all age groups.
How I thrive
I thrive by maintaining a good work-life balance. While I really enjoy my practice at Kaiser Permanente, I also make it a priority to spend as much time with my family and friends as possible. I enjoy biking, hiking and much of the arts, particularly movies, music and live theater.
